CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man is facing driving under the influence charges after a crash in Cranston that seriously hurt a 4-year-old.

Just after 8:30 p.m. Wednesday a driver ran a stop sign and crashed into another car at the intersection of Farmington and Dyer avenues, according to police.

Police say 37-year-old Jose Duque Morales showed signs of impairment at the scene. He was taken into custody and is currently at Rhode Island Hospital.

The 4-year-old passenger in his car was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle and multiple occupants were also brought to nearby hospitals for minor injuries.

Morales was charged with driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury and driving under the influence with a passenger under 13.

The crash remains under investigation.
