The officers who confronted the shooter at The Covenant School in Nashville have spoken out about their experience. On March 27th, six people including three children were killed by the 28-year-old shooter, Audrey Hale. Detective Sergeant Jeff Mathes, Detective Michael Collazo, and Officer Rex Engelbert shared their memories of the day after speeches from Metro Police Chief John Drake and Commander Dayton Wheeler. The officers are credited with taking down the shooter and body camera footage shows them clearing the rooms before reaching the second floor. The responding officers offered their condolences to the families of the victims. Despite Hale’s history of emotional disorder, there were no laws in place to prevent Hale from obtaining weapons which were all legally bought. Hale had previously attended The Covenant School and had no criminal history.
