
The Woonsocket Police have identified one person involved in a shooting incident that took place on Saturday afternoon. As per Woonsocket Police Chief Thomas Oates, the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. when the police received reports of two individuals exchanging gunshots in the area of Cumberland and Locust Streets. During the altercation, a 13-year-old boy riding in a passing vehicle sustained minor injuries, caused either by gunshots or shattered glass. The boy’s father was driving the vehicle, and a 14-year-old boy was also present but remained unharmed. The authorities identified Gerald Ware, a 49-year-old resident of Woonsocket, as one of the suspects and apprehended him. Ware received treatment for a gunshot wound in his leg and was then taken into police custody. He is facing several charges, including felony assault, possession of a firearm without a permit, discharging a firearm while committing a violent crime, firing in a compact area, firing across a highway and disorderly conduct. The police are still searching for the second suspect.
