Nearly two dozen rabbits are looking for their forever homes in East Providence, RI.

The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) rescued 20 rabbits from a Cranston apartment earlier this month. The neglected rabbits were found in stacked dog crates and most of them needed immediate veterinary care.

After nursing these rabbits back to health, the RISPCA is now organizing an adoption and education event this weekend, especially for those considering pet adoption. This is because many shelters across the state are seeing an increase in “small animal” relinquishments and rabbits are usually given as gifts during Easter when pet standard checks may not be a priority.

If you’re not quite ready for a living pet yet, the RISPCA is also offering stuffed toy rabbits “for adoption” during the event. These toys come with adoption certificates and are available for a $10 donation.

The event will be hosted by Rumford Pet Express in East Providence this Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
