The Gap store located in the Providence Place mall is set to close on April 24th. After being one of the mall’s longest tenants, the clothing retailer is preparing to shut its doors permanently. Signs advertising a 30% off sale have been displayed in the windows. In 2020, Gap announced plans to close 350 stores in North America, including Banana Republic shops, to consolidate its operations. As of now, Banana Republic stores in Providence and Newport remain open. Gap still has locations in Cranston and Newport despite the closure of this store, which opened in 1999 as one of the first businesses in Providence Place.
