The Stable in Providence hosted a fundraising event for the ACLU’s Drag Defense Fund on Sunday. The gathering aimed to combat anti-LGBTQ+ legislation in Tennessee and featured a special show with performances from groups like the Trailer Park Girls, Black Sheep Babes, and Drag in RI. Jones, one of the event organizers, expressed frustration with the current state of LGBTQ+ rights across the country, and hoped the fundraiser would help those fighting against anti-drag, anti-trans bills in Tennessee. The event was attended by Rhode Island Congressman Seth Magaziner, who argued that lawmakers should focus on issues impacting the lives of the American people rather than targeting the LGBTQ+ community. On Saturday, a federal judge in Tennessee ruled against one of the proposed bills, stating that the state did not provide a strong enough argument for its enactment.
