The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office has announced that Robert Burchell, a former New Bedford Whaling Museum employee who was accused of stealing numerous pocket-sized items while on duty, is facing new charges. The Bristol County Grand Jury has charged Burchell with 19 counts of larceny over $1,200. Burchell, who had previously been taken into custody for selling some of the stolen artifacts to antique and pawn shops, is suspected of having stolen more than $150,000 worth of artifacts from the museum. He is set to be arraigned on the new charges next Friday.
