More than 70% of physicians in the US have reported that misinformation has made it more challenging to treat COVID-19 patients and has ultimately harmed patient health, according to a poll by the de Beaumont Foundation and Morning Consult. The poll found that 72% of physicians stated misinformation made it harder to treat COVID-19 patients, and it has had a negative impact on patient outcomes. Over 80% of surveyed physicians agreed there is misinformation relating to COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, and 44% reported that more than half of the information they personally consume on the topic is misinformation. Notably, over 90% of surveyed physicians believe that COVID-19 vaccines are both safe and effective. The poll demonstrated that misinformation affects not only COVID-19 patients but also patients with cancer, diabetes, and weight loss issues. The poll was conducted in December 2022 among 806 US physicians and had a margin of error of 3%.
