The Democratic primary race to replace Congressman David Cicilline has become increasingly crowded, with Stephanie Beauté, a Providence native who ran an unsuccessful bid for statewide office last year, joining the race. In a news release on Wednesday, Beauté announced her campaign for the 1st District seat, citing her experience as a mother, working-class Rhode Islander, leader, and dreamer. Beauté is a graduate of Hope High School, with degrees from the University of Rhode Island and the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Seven other Democrats have filed to run in the 1st District primary, and the special primary will be held on September 5, with the general election on November 7. Cicilline is resigning his seat on June 1 to lead the Rhode Island Foundation.
