The Better Business Bureau (BBB) has issued a warning concerning a scam that targets smart TV users. According to the BBB, scammers have been using pop-ups on popular streaming devices, like Roku and Amazon Fire TV sticks, to trick users into giving them remote access to their smart TVs or pay an activation fee. Some users who clicked on the links provided by the pop-ups have unknowingly installed malware on their TVs, allowing scammers to collect personal information. To avoid this scam, the BBB recommends double-checking any fees, avoiding fake websites, verifying customer service phone numbers, and never allowing others to remotely control a device. If you have fallen victim to this scam, report it to the BBB Scam Tracker.
