The majority of Women & Infants Hospital employees, represented by SEIU 1199 NE, have voted “no confidence” in their employer, citing unresolved grievances, disrespect, and understaffing. In response, dozens of caregivers picketed outside the hospital to demand action from Care New England, the second-largest hospital group in Rhode Island. The caregivers reported staffing shortages and historic numbers of unresolved grievances along with a lack of clear and respectful communication from management. Care New England issued a statement pledging to create a welcoming and safe environment for team members and urged employees to speak up if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. A $33 million upgrade is planned for Women & Infants Hospital.
