Beloved Johnston Bowling Alley Town Hall Lanes to Close After Over 60 Years
Town Hall Lanes, a popular duckpin bowling alley located on Atwood Avenue in Johnston, Rhode Island, will officially close its doors on May 12, according to general manager Paul Norato. The alley, which first opened in 1959 and is home to several competitive leagues, has been a second home to Norato and a big part of the community for over two decades. While the closure is a hard pill for him to swallow, the building’s condition and upkeep played a significant role in the owner’s decision to shut it down.
Bookkeeper Lori Richardson explained that the piping system needed repairs that would require shutting off the water and rendering the fire sprinklers inoperable, resulting in an extended period of time when the alley would be without water and business. Richardson and others encouraged fans of Town Hall Lanes to pay a last visit to the establishment to show support and take away a memory of the community space.
