A Pawtucket woman has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after her dog passed away due to alleged neglect. Dawn Abbenante brought her elderly terrier mix to a veterinary clinic where it was discovered that the dog had suffered significant hair loss, matting, and two large abdominal tumors. The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) issued a warrant for Abbenante’s arrest after attempts to contact her were unsuccessful. Abbenante was arraigned on Monday and faces a felony count of unnecessary cruelty and a misdemeanor count of care of dogs. She was released on $3,000 personal recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on June 3rd.
