Olivia Pichardo from Brown University has made history once again. She recently became the very first woman to appear in a Division I baseball game when she pinch-hit last week. As a result, the helmet she wore is now being sent to Cooperstown, New York to become part of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s collection. Pichardo, an 18-year-old from New York City, made the spring 2023 roster following an impressive walk-on tryout. Almost 20 women have been named to college baseball rosters, but none in Division I, according to Baseball for All, a nonprofit that advocates for women’s opportunities to play and coach baseball.
