Workers at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) are striking over what they deem unfair labor practices. Custodians, groundskeepers, and movers represented by General Teamsters Local 251 claim that RISD did not grant a general wage increase or permit bargaining. Negotiations have been ongoing for several months as the workers sought to secure their first contract at the school. Union leaders allege that talks have stalled, although RISD said that it made its best and final offer last month and that the union missed the March 1 deadline to respond. The strike is for one day only.
