Skimming devices were discovered attached to ATMs in two additional Rhode Island communities this week. The Cumberland Farms ATMs located on Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence and on Broad Street in Central Falls were found to have skimmers installed. Earlier in the week, Johnston police found a skimmer on an ATM in a Cumberland Farms on Killingly Street. Authorities warn that this is a “well-organized scam” and advise ATM users to be vigilant. Since skimmers can be difficult to detect, police suggest cardholders use the “SCAN” checklist. If a card skimmer is located, individuals are urged to contact the police. Those who have used their cards at either location should contact their bank to ensure that no unauthorized transactions or withdrawals have occurred and consider changing their PIN.
