Seasonal residents are arriving in Cape Cod Bay, according to WPRI. The Center for Coastal Studies’ Right Whale Ecology Program reported that a 21-year-old North Atlantic Right whale named Porcia and her new calf were spotted on Saturday. To protect the endangered species, vessel speeds are restricted between March 1st and April 30th. The CCS requires boats less than 65 feet in length to keep speeds at 10 knots and bans boats and aircrafts from approaching within 500 yards of the animals. North Atlantic Right whales are threatened by boat strikes and rope entanglements, and there are less than 350 animals remaining, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
