Marissa Barrett wrote an article on WPRI announcing that two K-9s from the Cranston Police Department, Ryken and Czar, will be receiving custom-fitted bullet and stab proof vests courtesy of the Taunton-based non-profit, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The vests, which will arrive within eight to 10 weeks, will be embroidered with the message “In memory of K-9 Lex,” who passed away last September. Vested Interest’s mission is to provide protective vests to K-9s nationwide, and since its inception in 2009, the non-profit has donated almost 5,000 vests. Cranston Police Major Todd Patalano expressed his appreciation for the generous donation, noting that K-9s are often deployed in precarious, hazardous, and dangerous situations. The article includes pictures of K-9s Ryken and Czar.
