The deadline to phase out the 24-hour warming station at the Cranston Street Armory in Providence, Rhode Island has been pushed back, according to R.I. Housing Secretary Stefan Pryor and Amos House CEO Eileen Hayes. The station was established last winter to provide temporary shelter for homeless people. The state’s contract with the venue expires on 15 April, and Pryor says operations must be wound down, adding that he recognises concerns about increased drug use and litter near the station.
