The Pentagon has shared video footage claiming to show a Russian fighter jet flying over the Black Sea, pouring fuel on a US Air Force drone and clipping its propeller. The US military chose to ditch the drone in the sea after this move by the fighter, which they said proved an unsafe interception of the unmanned aerial vehicle had taken place. The footage does not provide evidence before or after the incident. While the US and Russia frequently intercept each other’s warplanes, this confrontation marks the first time it has led to a US aircraft crashing since the Cold War. The US has not attempted to salvage the wreckage, which is believed to have sunk to depths of up to 5,000 feet.
