A Pawtucket couple, Jeifry DeJesus and Emarys Cruz, are facing nine felony charges after their 2-year-old child was allegedly exposed to drugs. They were arraigned in Providence District Court and both face charges of child endangerment, cruelty to or neglect of a child, possession of fentanyl, and possession of cocaine. The police responded to their apartment in Prospect Heights on Monday after Cruz’s child had stopped breathing. The child was taken to hospital and tested positive for fentanyl, cocaine, and xylazine, but has since recovered. The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth, and Families is now investigating the incident. DeJesus, the mother’s boyfriend, was held without bail, and records show he has a history of charges, including domestic violence, robbery, and burglary. He is due back in court on April 5 for a separate charge. Cruz was also held without bail, and court records show she is due back on June 7.
