Nestlé Purina PetCare Company has expanded their recall of a prescription dog food, Purina Pro Plan Veterinary Diets EL Elemental, due to potentially elevated levels of vitamin D. This dry dog food may cause vomiting, appetite loss, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling and kidney dysfunction in dogs. The affected batches of dog food include lot Nos. 2213 1082 and 2214 1082, UPC code Nos. 38100 19190 (8-pound bags) and 38100 19192 (20-pound bags). The affected dog food was distributed throughout the United States by prescription only through veterinary clinics and select retailers. Purina advises pet owners to stop feeding their dogs the affected product and dispose of it where no other animals, including wildlife, can access it. Any customer with further questions or concerns, or in need of a refund, can visit Purina’s website. No other Purina pet care products are involved in the recall.
