A Rhode Island-based developer, Memorial Real Estate Group, plans to transform the former Memorial Hospital into a multi-use site. The vacant hospital will be converted into collaborative workspace offices, affordable housing, a restaurant, and a gym. Michael Mota, the managing partner for Memorial Real Estate Group, has coordinated with Lockwood Development Partners and Veteran Services USA to build affordable housing for veterans. The project is estimated to cost $70 million and will be self-funded. Amos House, a family shelter currently operating at the site, will remain. Thirty families were displaced in December 2022 due to water damage caused by a sprinkler malfunction. Mota assures that Amos House is a state-funded program, and they plan to work with the state to keep it running.
