A sixth-grader from Birchwood Middle School in North Providence, Elias Rouleau, had the opportunity to serve as the chief of the local police department for a day. Rouleau was rewarded for writing the best essay, which explained how he would help the community if he were a chief. His essay focused on the community, which impressed North Providence Police Chief Alfredo Ruggerio. Rouleau was the department’s first honoree, and he spent his day touring the department and meeting the town’s officers. Ruggerio plans to extend this honor to an elementary school as well to build trust and communication between the department and the community through children.
