General Dynamics Electric Boat plans to hire over 5,700 new employees in the next two years as part of a nearly $2 billion expansion of the Quonset Point facility. The company is also expanding education programs for local students in partnership with all the employers and higher education institutions to offer a year-round education experience to students. The expansion includes a new 100,000-square-foot building in Quonset Point supporting the production of nuclear-powered submarines for the U.S. Navy and transport modules for assembly.
According to Sen. Jack Reed, those who build United States submarines are essential to the nation’s defense, and it is crucial that governments, private industry and academic institutions work together to strategically train and connect people to in-demand skills and good-paying jobs.
