When Joe Walsh began to choke on a piece of watermelon during a lunch break at a school musical rehearsal, high-schoolers Maddox Hopkins and Jack Pezza acted quickly to save him. Hopkins knew how to perform the Heimlich Maneuver, so he immediately offered to help when Walsh started to cough uncontrollably. Although it was a challenging task, the pair successfully saved Walsh’s life. Walsh expressed deep gratitude for his friends’ actions, and Hopkins and Pezza were later honored at a North Kingstown School Committee meeting for their heroism. The humble teenagers hope that anyone in their shoes would have done the same thing if a friend was in danger.
