The dedication of the Purple Heart Trail in Rhode Island has brought attention to the services and programs available to local Purple Heart Veterans. The state is hoping to increase the number of Rhode Island Purple Heart Veterans receiving support, currently at 43%, and connect them to necessary resources. Governor Dan McKee hopes the trail will raise awareness for local veterans and connect them with necessary programs and services. The VFW Post 916 Commander Tiger Patrick led efforts to create the trail and establish Purple Heart Towns in all six communities along the trail. Personal connections to Purple Heart Veterans were shared at the dedication ceremony by Rhode Island legislatures and Rhode Island Veterans Affairs Director Kasim Yarn thanked the “true heroes – America’s heroes” in attendance.
