Rhode Island Department of Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green announced that students will return to full-time, in-person learning this coming fall. While masks will still be required for unvaccinated students and teachers, those who are fully vaccinated can anticipate not needing to wear face coverings in the classroom. Each district will be advised to create their own mask wearing policies. While districts will not be required to provide distance learning, they will need plans for continued instruction in the event that students need to quarantine. The Department of Health will provide ongoing guidance to school communities throughout Rhode Island. Despite the positive news, vaccination is still a crucial aspect of protecting the community against the Delta Variant. Children aged 12 and above are eligible for the vaccine, and the state urges everyone to get vaccinated.
