A man who had been allegedly passing bad checks in multiple communities was captured in East Providence, following a car crash. According to Seekonk Police Captain Matt Jardine, officers were responding to reports of a person attempting to cash fraudulent checks at Santander Bank on Taunton Avenue when the suspect fled from the bank, hitting an officer who was responding. The officer gave chase and intercepted the suspect while he was attempting to flee the area in his car. After a brief scuffle, the suspect “backed the car into the officer and sped off.” Following his escape, the suspect crashed into a tree and subsequently fled on foot before being arrested. Jardine said the suspect, who remains unidentified, will face various charges for his actions. Despite the violent nature of the altercation, the officer involved avoided any serious injuries.
