A man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a jogger in Warwick City Park nearly a decade ago. Michael Soares was convicted earlier this year for killing 66-year-old John “Jack” Fay, a retired postal worker and Vietnam veteran, who was stabbed and beaten to death in May 2013 while out for a jog in the park. Fay’s body was found the following day, stuffed in a barrel with the murder weapons, a knife and a small sledgehammer, located nearby. The murder went unsolved for years until DNA evidence linked Soares to the crime. He was arrested in February 2019. The story is still developing.
