A man has been sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a jogger in Warwick City Park nearly a decade ago. Michael Soares was convicted earlier this year for killing 66-year-old John “Jack” Fay, a retired postal worker and Vietnam veteran, who was stabbed and beaten to death in May 2013 while out for a jog in the park. Fay’s body was found the following day, stuffed in a barrel with the murder weapons, a knife and a small sledgehammer, located nearby. The murder went unsolved for years until DNA evidence linked Soares to the crime. He was arrested in February 2019. The story is still developing. An image accompanying the article has been retained.
