Warren Town Manager Kate Michaud testified in Washington, D.C., on federal protections for coastal communities against climate change. The U.S. Senate Budget Committee heard from experts, including Michaud. Warren commissioned a study in 2017 and found that beyond three feet of sea rise, the viability of the facility is unlikely. Michaud told the committee that by the year 2100, 306 out of 400 buildings in the area could be lost to the rising water. Senate Budget Committee Chairman Sheldon Whitehouse said climate change will burden the economy and federal budget, and the extent of climate hazards is projected to grow.
